7 Steps to Selecting a Good Affiliate Program That Makes You Money

Millions of new websites are launched every year as people figure out new ways to make money on the internet. One of the best ways is to develop a product yourself around a popular niche and market it to people who need your product. Sounds simple enough but what if you don't have your own product.

Maybe just the thought of developing one is so daunting that you just can't pull it off. You get stuck in 1st gear. Well instead of just spinning your wheels, you need to find a way to shift on into 2nd and get rolling down the money track.

Rest easy, there's another way to make money - by selling other people's products. What I'm talking out here is called Affiliate Marketing. That's where you go out and find a product that fills a need in the market place, and you promote the heck out of it. Although it also helps if you like the product yourself and have used it, that's not a prerequisite.

But before you go out and join any and every affiliate program at your disposal, here are 7 questions to consider along the way.

Is this product a good seller? You need to make sure that you're not wasting your time promoting a dud. With so many to choose from, it could be easy to choose the wrong one(s). Ask about the historical conversion rate of the product. If you already have a product, don't stick with a dog if it isn't paying off for you. Dump it and jump onto another one.
Does this product appeal to my niche? Make certain that the product meets the needs of the visitors that come to your website. This appears a no-brainer - but you'd be surprised how many websites are promoting products or services that have nothing to do with the website theme. That's like trying to promote "5 Tips to Rebuilding You Car Engine" on a site targeted to new mothers. It doesn't make sense... or cents.
How much commission will I earn off of each sale? You'll see commission all over the board that range anywhere from 5% upwards to 60%. Everything else being even, of course go for the higher payout. This way you maximize the profit on the traffic to your site. This is another no-brainer.
What kind of tracking and reporting system does the program have? Investigate the tracking system to make sure you feel confident you're not going to lose out on any commissions. Also, an accurate traffic reporting system is essential in determining the effectiveness of your marketing efforts. Which ad techniques are paying off for you and which ones are not? You need to know this. A good program will give you complete reports to help refine your marketing efforts.
What marketing assistance and resources are provided? A really good affiliate program will provide all the marketing materials you'll need to promote the product. It should also provide training.
Pay attention to who is selling the product? Beware of scams. They are everywhere - especially on the internet. Be certain that the individual or company you're dealing with is legit and has a good reputation. Any seller worth their salt will offer a 100% money back guarantee for a period of time. Also check on the frequency of your commission payments.
Is it FREE to join? There should not be a cost to join an affiliate program. If there is, then it's not a true affiliate program. Again, beware of scams.
It may take a little time to do your homework and seek out a good affiliate program but it's time well spent. Remember, your main objective is to make money. These 7 tips will help you choose an affiliate program that's right for you.

Good luck in your search.
